Welcome to Umannachi Improvement Union-USA
Umunnachi is a town in Dunukofia Local Area government in Anambra State of Nigeria. God has given us, and made us Guardians of Umunnachi. this town is our Heritage as well as our legacy. let's keep it in Peace, fill it with love, Honour it with service and let's build it-together.   Umunnachi indigenes in the United States and Canada have organized themselves and formed the Umunnachi improvement union as a non-profit organization to do charitable work that benefits our folks in the United States and also in our homeland Umunnachi.  Our goal is to raise funds to assist projects in Umunnachi and specifically to provide access and free primary and secondary education to all residents of Umunnachi, to equip the Secondary and High schools with Science labs and sponsor Science teachers to teach at the High schools, to improve health care for residents and support Umunnachi Maternity Homes and area Hospitals, and to award Secondary and University education scholarships to deserving indigines.

The Location:  The five towns which make up Dunukofia clan live close to one another even if in two administrative areas.  The closest neighors are Umudioka, Abagana, Eziowelle, and Ogidi.

PreColonial Government in Umunnachi: Umunnachi, like a typical Igbo town until recently was governed by three agencies: The Elders, The Titled men, and Masquerades.
The Elders:  These were representives from the various family kindreds, and were chosen on the basis of age.  They deliberated over issues affecting the welfare of the communities.  Decisions were usually reached through consensus, and these were sealed by oath-taking and striking of Ofo at Ana-Nnachi.
The Titled Men: The titled men also deliberated over issues - some of them of specialized nature and sometimes essentially relatio to customs and tradition.  As in the case of elders, decisions were often unanimously agreed upon and sealed on oath.
Masquerades: These were a law enforcement agency.  Decisions reached at by the elders and titled men were executed by masquerades sentenced to death and arrest a culprit who could be sold into slavery.  No one dared challenge the authority of the masquerades.
